PELLETs PRE-INSERTION NOTICE

The treatment requires two appointments: one for bloodwork and another for pellet placement about a week later.

Before Bloodwork: Arrive fasting (water is fine).

Before Pellet Placement: Avoid alcohol, anti-inflammatory medications (including aspirin), Vitamin E, fish oil, flaxseed oil, and Ginkgo Biloba for 2 days to reduce the risk of bleeding and bruising.

PELLETs POST-INSERTION NOTICE

Bandages:

  • Remove the outer pressure bandage 24 hours after insertion or sooner if it gets wet.
  • The inner layer steri-strips should be removed in 3-7 days.

Ice Pack:

  • Apply an ice pack to the area for 20 minutes at a time, a few times over the next 4 to 5 hours.

Bathing and Exercise:

  • Avoid tub baths, hot tubs, and swimming pools for 3-7 days. Showering is allowed, but do not scrub the site until it’s healed (about 7 days).
  • Refrain from major exercises involving the incision area (e.g., running, squats) for 3-7 days. Light upper body workouts and walking are allowed..

Discomfort and Swelling:

  • The area may be uncomfortable for up to 2-3 weeks. If itching or redness occurs, take 50 mg Benadryl every 6 hours as needed (may cause drowsiness).
  • Some bruising, swelling, or redness is normal and may last from a few days to 2-3 weeks. Pinkish or bloody discoloration on the bandage is also normal.

Reminders:

Remember to go for your post‐insertion blood work 4 weeks after the insertion.

Most women will need re‐insertions of their pellets 3 months after their initial insertion.

Most men will need re‐insertions of their pellets 6 months after their initial insertion.

Please call as soon as symptoms that were relieved from the pellets start to return to make an appointment for a re‐insertion.
